We will be celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee by holding a Garden Party 1.15-3.15pm. Bring along your picnic blanket and join us on our school field. Stalls will be around our field, where you can purchase Jubilee goodies, sandwiches, drinks and cakes for your afternoon tea! Please advise our school office if you are able to attend and have fun with your child at our Jubilee Garden Party. Themed Lunch
Also on Thursday 26th May our children can take part in a Jubilee Themed Picnic Lunch to eat outside (weather depending) - book via our School Grid App Picnic lunch will be a sausage roll, slice of pizza & a bread roll , carrot sticks or cucumber sticks and a muffin or fruit.

Handle with Care
If your family is experiencing difficulties at home, I would like to provide additional support at school. I understand that you are not always able to share details and that’s ok. If your child is coming into school after a difficult night or weekend, please text me ‘handle with care’ and the child’s name. Nothing else will be said or asked. This will let me know that your child may need extra time, patience or help during the day.

Walk to School Week

We will again be joining in with Walk to School Week, week of 16th May. Watch out for our passports and collect a stamp for every day you walk to school!
This year’s theme is ‘Power Up’ - to engage children through video game inspired design - encouraging children to walk/bike/scooter to school. Each day will see a level unlocked and a new mission to complete, through which children will discover the incredible benefits of walking for individuals, communities and the planet.

Year 4 and 6 SRE sessions
We will be delivering SRE (sex related education) sessions to our Year 6 class on Tuesday 10th May and 7th June. Year 4 will commenced on Friday 29th April.

Data Cleansing

It is important that school always have up to date contact information for parents and therefore we require everyone to complete and return a form that is being sent out on Wednesday 23rd March 2022. Deadline for responses is Monday 28th March so that the office team have time to update any information that needs changing. If school do not hold the correct contact numbers and e-mail addresses then the APP will not work. So please complete the form as soon as it is sent home.

Red Nose Day
Thank you for your support - we raised an amazing £140.40.

We are experiencing a lot of children arriving late for school at the moment: please remember our school doors open every morning at 8.45am and we have bagels on offer for our children and our registers are taken at 8.55am.

Family Easter Bingo
Tuesday 29th March, our FOTSA will be hosting a family Easter Bingo Night - 6pm for eyes down at 6.30pm. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
Come along and join in the fun!

On Friday 1st April, we will be having a visitor in school! The Easter Bunny will be hopping in for breakfast with our children.

Rock Kidz ~ Monday 14th March
Rock Kidz will be visiting our School on Monday 14th March - they are an amazing rock group and our children are going to love them! They will get us singing/rocking
to songs about self esteem and growth mindset etc. Then finish the day with a celebration assembly!

Thank you to all who donated to The Brick and came into school wearing bright, silly socks. We raised a fantastic £133.

World Book Day - 5th March
Once again, we will be celebrating World Book Day on Thursday 3rd March. To help us celebrate we would like everyone in our school to come dressed as their favourite book character. The children will also be participating in a range of activities that promote enjoyment of reading and a love of literature.
We hope you will support us in this fantastic annual event- it's the first week back after half term so start designing and making your outfits soon.

Eating Disorders Awareness Week 2022 - Feb 28 to March 6
Eating Disorders Awareness Week is an international awareness event, fighting the myths and misunderstandings that surround anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder and EDNOS. We know the sooner someone gets the treatment they need, the more likely they are to make a full and fast recovery. As well as campaigning to improve the services available, we must raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of an eating disorder and encourage and empower people to take action now no matter how long their symptoms have been present. BEAT has resources available to guide you through a variety of stages. Valentine’s Love Bug Drive
Our FOTSA will be holding a Valentine’s Love Bug Drive, this is like the game of Beetle.
Year 1 & 2 on Tuesday 15th February 3.20pm-5pm
Year 3 & 4 on Wednesday 16th February 3.20-5pm
Year 5 & 6 on Thursday 17th February 3.20-5pm
Tickets are £3 each, this includes playing the love bug drive, pizza and a drink. If your child would like to join us, please send in £3. Please advise of any allergies.
Last date to buy tickets will be Friday 11th February - in order for staff to purchase pizza, know our numbers and organise the event.

Late Marks
Please remember our school day starts at 8.55am - doors open and children can come into school and enjoy a bagel from 8.45am. We are experiencing a number of children arriving late - please ensure your child arrives on time and ready to learn.

Christmas Movie Night
We will be holding a Christmas Movie Night on:
Monday 13th December 3.20 — 4.30pm for Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 5 - 7pm for Years 3, 4, 5 and 6. £2 per child, includes a drink and a snack.

Please note numbers are limited, as we are working hard to reduce large gatherings and to keep everyone safe.

Christmas Jumpers
Wear your Christmas Jumper every Friday in December. In support of the hard work Mrs Parkes has put in with her eco-homeless project, please bring in an item of
packet or tinned food on a Friday, for us to create a hamper to donate to The Brick charity along with the crisp packet survival blankets we have made. Thank you.

Breakfast with Santa
As we are trying to reduce crowds and large numbers gathering, to keep everyone safe, our Breakfast with Santa, will run a little different this year:
Nursery & Reception - Tuesday 14th December 8.15 - 9am
Year 1 & Year 2 - Wednesday 15th December 8.15 - 9am
Year 3 & Year 4 - Thursday 16th December 8.15am - 9am
Year 5 & Year 6 - Friday 17th December 8.15am - 9am.
£2 per child, includes a drink of milk/water, slice of toast and a small gift from Santa. Please send in £2, if you would like your child to attend.

A Note from Mr Hurst
Mr Hurst would like to thank Amy, Katie and Naevia, (Y5), for volunteering to be our Playground Leaders. They will be spotted on the playground on Tuesdays and Thursdays in yellow bibs near the outside PE store. They have set up a challenge of ‘ball on a wall’, which lasts for 1 minute. It is open to any children and we will look for Class Champions and an overall leader. The early leader is Ava (Y6) and Jack (Y5) with a score of 48.

Christmas Markets ~ Wednesday 8th December, 3.30pm — 4.30pm.
This year we will be holding a Christmas Market outside school, on our playground. We are hoping to raise money and have some exciting stalls. We are still in need of lots of items for our Market - please support us and donate an item.

Champion’s Childcare
Our Champion’s Childcare runs every day 3.20pm — 5.45pm. The next two weeks they are running a Christmas Theme, with Christmas crafts & activities.

Anti Bullying Week - 15th November.
The theme for this year is ‘One Kind Word’. All our children will be taking part in Anti Bullying Activities throughout the week. We will be starting the week with Odd Socks Day - come to school on Monday 15th wearing your odd socks.

PARENT GOVERNOR.
We have a space on our Governing Board for a Parent Governor, a letter will be sent home with each child on Wednesday 10th November along with a nomination form if any parents wish to apply.

Friends of the School Association - We need new members!
We will be holding our Annual General Meeting on Thursday 18th November in school at 3.30pm. We would love to welcome new members to join us in fundraising for our school. If you would like to join us, but are unable to attend the meeting, please speak to Mrs Davies.

It is now time for those who are in Nursery or who would to apply for our Reception Class for September 2022. You can apply from 30/9/21 up till 15/1/22.

Home Achievements
At Worsley Mesnes we like to celebrate all our achievements, so if your child has been awarded anything out of school, we want to know, eg. Dancing certificate, judo belt. Please send in any certificates, photos ~ we will add them to our display

Poppy Appeal
Once again we are supporting the Royal British Legion and selling poppies and other items. Zip pull - suggested donation 50p, Reflector - suggested donation 50p,
Silicone Wristbands - suggested donation £1 and Snap Bands - suggested donation of £1.50.

Children In Need - 19th November
Together we can change the lives of the children and young people that need us most. Come to school in your favourite dress up costume and bring a £1 donation - all donations add up and make a huge difference to the work they do.

Know the 4 Ts of Type 1 Diabetes - it could save a child’s life
Toilet - going to the toilet a lot
Thirsty - being really thirsty and unable to quench the thirst
Tired - feeling more tired than usual
Thinner - losing weight or looking thinner than usual
If you notice any of these signs and symptoms, you should contact your doctor straight away.

Cutting Grapes
Grapes should always be cut lengthwise so they can pass more easily through smaller throats. Never slice widthwise because they'll still be big  enough to choke on. You can either slice them downwards in half, or for small babies, you might want to cut them lengthwise again into quarters.

Nasal Flu immunisation programme for Reception – Year 6
This will take place on 22nd November 2021 The consent form will go out on Wednesday 15th September 2021 and parents will have one week in which to complete form and return to school as NHS need to obtain the correct amount of vaccine for the number of consent forms.

Walk to School
We are again promoting our Walking to School. Each morning, our children will log how they have arrived to school. Monthly badges - each month there is a different badge to collect, earn a badge for walking to school 3 times a week. A brisk walk to school can help your child arrive refreshed and energised, it can also have a positive effect on a child’s emotional wellbeing.

School holiday pattern 21-22
Please note the change to school closing for the summer holidays, school will close Thursday 21st July at 2pm.  Due to May Bank Holiday being moved to Thursday 2nd June and an additional Bank Holiday on Friday 3rd June to celebrate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, the school working pattern has been amended by Wigan Council.
